Sabu and Simi’s brand-new house at Irinjalakkuda in Thrissur, Kerala, is a majestic neo-colonial abode built in 3000 sqft. Architect Ajay Krishnan who designed this enchanting house named ‘Pearl valley’ describes it as a cosy nest amidst serene greenery.
It was in 2021 that Ajay was roped in to design the project. The family are avid travellers, especially in Europe. Many designer elements they had seen there have been incorporated into their dream dwelling. Various decor items and kitchen accessories they have collected from around the world have been used here. So, this house was inspired from the family’s love for travelling.
The elevation features the mesmerizing fusion of neo-colonial architecture and Kerala’s tropical style. The roof in multiple layers grants elegance to the elevation. Meanwhile, imported tiles have been paved on the GI truss roof. The outer walls are adorned with cement boards as groves and have been painted white.
The compound wall that doesn’t conceal the scintillating grace of the house is another attractive feature. The wall built using woven mesh costs around Rs 300 per square foot. Meanwhile, the car porch is built on the side, without marring the overall look of the structure. The car porch too has a GI truss roof paved with tiles to match the elevation of the house.
The aesthetically pleasing landscape is as charming as the house. This house has been built by pulling down the old structure. Furniture and other decor items from the old house have been reused in the new house. Moreover, most of the trees in the landscape have been retained, adding a warmth of greenery around the structure. The entrance door opens to an elegantly furnished formal living area. The custom-made furniture pieces gel well with the general theme of the house. Meanwhile, the family living area, dining space and the kitchen are arranged as part of the spacious hall.
From the hall, you could enter the courtyard, which is the most beautiful spot in the house. This is a green haven that receives cool rain showers as well as golden sun rays. Grills have been installed here to ensure security. A full-length window in the parents’ bedroom on the ground floor opens to the mesmerizing views of this indoor courtyard.
The staircase designed in metal finish has teakwood planks as steps. Meanwhile, the wall in the upper landing has been turned into a photo wall where beautiful memories have been immortalised. Furniture from the old house is mostly used on the upper floor of the house. A library space, workspace, bedrooms with bay windows and a balcony too have been arranged here.
The open kitchen dons the classic colour combination of white and grey. Breakfast counter, cupboards done in WPC and a tall unit too are part of the modern kitchen. Besides, there is also a working kitchen here. The construction of this house was completed at a cost of Rs 4000 per square foot including the compound wall, landscape structure and furniture.
