Salah, an expatriate calls his brand new house at Vakkad in Malappuram, his dream dwelling ‘built via WhattsApp’. He was in the Gulf when the construction had progressed. From the planning to the final touches, he oversaw everything through WhatsApp chats and video calls.
The owner could only reach Kerala when the construction was in its final stages, just before the housewarming function. Meanwhile, his brother had managed everything here.
As the family doesn’t live here for the most part of the year, they wanted a cost-effective house that is easy to manage. The classy box-style elevation grants a contemporary look to the house. Besides, they wanted the interiors to receive ample sunshine and cool breeze. Stone-coated roofing sheet has been paved on the GI truss roof.
The open balcony and the glass wall instantly grab attention. Interestingly, these features look incredible when the lights are switched on at night. The wall that separates the sit-out and car porch and the show wall in the elevation is highlighted with elegant terracotta cladding works.
Designed in 2800, this amazing abode has a car porch, sit-out, formal and family living areas, dining space, kitchen with a work area and two bedrooms on the ground floor. Meanwhile, the upper floor has two more bedrooms and an open terrace too.
The house has been designed with a simple plan, sans any designer gimmicks. The interiors, meanwhile, are open and spacious. Here, only the bedrooms are separated by walls. The rest of the common spaces are open and communicate with each other. Besides, the double-height spaces make the interiors look and feel spacious. Moreover, this ensures excellent cross ventilation too.
The grand elegance of Italian marble flooring is impeccable. Meanwhile, the ready-made furniture pieces gels well with the general theme of the house. The walls don the serene white hue that makes the spaces look spacious. The gypsum false ceiling too has been designed in a simple plain white theme. The texture painting and the beautiful wallpaper, meanwhile, add the perfect contrast against the white colour theme.
The stairway has timber steps built on a metal frame. Interestingly, the stair continues as a bridge into the upper floor. The hand railings, done in as square tubes are an interesting feature.
The bedrooms too are decked in the white colour theme. These rooms have attached bathrooms and wardrobes too.
The modern and space-efficient kitchen has been designed in a charming combination of sky blue and wooden. The cabinets, meanwhile, are done in multi-wood and acrylic finish. The countertop has been paved with nano white.
The construction of this beautiful house, including the structure and furnishing, was completed on a budget of Rs 56 lakh. The open interiors designed without any walls and the lighter shades of hues had helped in reigning in the furnishing expenses.
The owner says that the unexpected rise in the price of construction materials during the pandemic has slightly increased the expenses. However, it indeed is an impressive feat that the construction of this fabulous abode could be completed on a reasonable rate of Rs 2000 per square foot. The family, meanwhile, feels proud when their relatives and friends shower praise on their dream dwelling.
