Building a beautiful abode with all the required amenities, on a moderate budget, would be the dream of every common man. Sethu Surendran’s brand new house at the countryside of Karikode in Kottayam district in Kerala is the perfect example of such a house.
The family desired to build a comfortable home with spacious interiors, without burning a hole in the pocket. Though they approached many designers, the estimated budget was above Rs 30 lakh. Finally, they entrusted noted architect Binu Mohan who is known for designing amazing budget friendly houses to build their dream dwelling too.
The exteriors of the house feature a chic box style. The walls don the white hue that grants an enchanting charm to the house. The show wall, meanwhile, has cement groves and is highlighted with a pleasant olive green shade.
The spectacular abode has a car porch, sit-out, living area, dining space, and kitchen with work area, three bedrooms, stair room and an open terrace designed in an area of 1650 sqft. GI pipes have been installed on a wall in the porch as a design element.
The interiors stand out for their minimal yet elegant furnishing. The plan was drawn by strictly following the rules of the vastusastra. This ensures excellent cross ventilation inside the house.
The readymade furniture is classy and matches the general theme of the house.
Two bedrooms are bath attached and there is a common bathroom beneath the stair area.
The kitchen, meanwhile, is furnished using aluminium fabrication. The counter top has been paved with granite. A quaint work area too has been arranged as part of the kitchen.
An additional floor could be built, if required, in the future above the flat roof. The construction of this splendid abode, including structure and furnishing, was completed on a moderate budget of Rs 25 lakh.
Among the various factors that helped in keeping a check on the expenses, building the foundation in the pillar – beam method played a vital role. Relatively inexpensive timber has been used for furnishing. The aluminum fabricated kitchen is stylish and functional. Branded tiles, that aren’t too expensive, were handpicked. Moreover, light points are directly installed without doing a false ceiling.
