Vishnu R Nair decided to give his old house in Kothamangalam, Kerala, which is more than two decades old, a modern makeover when time begun taking a toll on the structure. Besides, the family wanted spacious interiors where natural light and air are available in abundance. They also wished for their home to match a modern lifestyle.
The family wasn’t interested in dismantling too many features. So, changes were made by making some rearrangements in the interiors. A bedroom and two bathrooms are newly added in the renovated structure. The show wall in the exteriors has been heightened to make the elevation stand out.
The old flooring got replaced with new and stylish floor works. Besides, new sets of furniture, ceiling and panelling works, LED spot lights and hanging lights make the house elegant and modern. The stylish furniture is custom-made as per the measurements of the spaces. The spectacular furnishing exudes the classy elegance of marine plywood and laminate finish.
The amazing Buddha wall painting is the highlight of the living area. Besides adding a splendid look to the space, it exudes calming positive vibes as well. The interior spaces are arranged in the semi-partition style.
An interesting painting of a bicycle, birds and a lamp post adorn the wall in the dining area.
There were two bedrooms furnished in the old style in this house. One more bedroom with attached-bathroom and wardrobes is newly added.
The kitchen too underwent a renovation. It got transformed into a modern modular kitchen with enough cupboards for storage. An adjacent work area completes the kitchen area.
Many knock down their old house completely to rebuild a new one. However, in this case, renovations are done only where they were needed. It helped in keeping a check on the expenses. This beautiful house is a fine example of a stylish abode that got updated to suit the modern times.
