New Delhi: Sini Shetty, the Femina Miss India 2022 title holder, expressed her excitement about representing India at the Miss World pageant, which began in New Delhi on February 20. Interestingly, the Miss World pageant is returning to India after a hiatus of twenty eight years. “India is where modernity walks hand in hand with traditional values. The contestants who reach here for the pageant would be amazed by our country,” said Sini Shetty. Contestants representing 120 countries across the globe are participating in the prestigious beauty pageant held in association with the India Tourism Development Corporation.

The contestants, who are staying at 'The Ashok' hotel, were taken to the Rajghat, prior to the pageant. Most beauty queens opted for traditional Indian wear to honour the rich culture of the country. The grand finale of the 71st Miss World ceremony be hosted at Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai on March 9. Bollywood playback singer Shaan will lead the musical concert that has been arranged as part of the pageant.

The official announcement of the Miss World beauty pageant was held at Delhi recently. Many prominent personalities including India’s former Miss World title winner Manushi Chillar attended the event. The Miss World pageant focusses on its central theme ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ this year too. Interestingly, India has welcomed the contestants as the official ambassadors of the respective countries they represent. Josekutty Panackal, the picture editor at Malayala Manorama’s Delhi unit, travelled alongside the contestants and captured their photos as they visited some of the iconic places in the city.
