Healthy oats puttu recipe: A nutritious twist on a Kerala classic

Looking for a nutritious and tasty breakfast option? This simple oats puttu recipe is a healthier alternative to the traditional rice-based version, perfect for those seeking a wholesome start to the day.

Ingredients
1 cup steel-cut or rolled oats
Mustard seeds (as required)
Oil (as required)
¼ onion (chopped)
Grated coconut (as required)
Coriander leaves (as required)
Salt (to taste)

Preparation
Grind the oats into a fine powder using a mixer jar
Heat oil in a pan and splutter the mustard seeds
Add chopped onions and saute until soft
Stir in grated coconut and coriander leaves
Mix well and set aside
In a separate bowl, mix salt with the ground oats
Add water gradually to form a coarse puttu powder
Pulse this mixture again in the mixer
Add the coconut mixture to the oats puttu powder
Layer grated coconut at the bottom of the puttu kutti (puttu steamer), followed by the oats mixture
Add another layer of grated coconut on top
Steam for 5-10 minutes on high flame
Serve your delicious and healthy oats puttu!
