Nuts are usually soaked overnight before consumption. But, is there any truth in the belief that soaking nuts is good for health? Do the taste and health benefits get enhanced when nuts are soaked?

Weakens anti-nutrients
Anti-nutrients, which are phytic acids, interfere with the body’s ability to absorb essential minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and iron. But when nuts are soaked, the anti-nutrients in them are weakened and it becomes easier for the body to assimilate the minerals.

Enhances aroma, texture
When soaked, nuts become not only more tender but also tastier. Soaked nuts can be blended with some curries. It is easier to grind soaked nuts and it also enhances the aroma and taste.

Aids digestion
The enzyme inhibitors and phytic acids present in nuts act as obstacles to digestion. They also prevent the speedy absorption of nutrients. But when nuts are soaked overnight, these compounds get neutralised. The result is that the digestive process becomes smoother.

Reduces potency
Soaking nuts will reduce their potency which helps to digest them in any weather condition.
