Mung beans (also known as green gram) are storehouses of protein and other essential nutrients. They aid digestion and helps in reducing body weight. Besides, mung beans should be included in the regular diet to lower the ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar level. Here is how to prepare tasty mung bean appam.

Ingredients
2 tbsp yellow split dal
½ cup raw rice
½ cup mung beans
3-4 shallots
Curry leaves
1 tsp cumin
½ tsp asafoetida powder
Salt as required
1 tsp oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds
3 dried chilies
1 tsp white sesame seeds
Curry leaves

Preparation
Wash the mung beans, raw rice and yellow split dal
Soak them for at least 5 hours
Take the soaked lentils and raw rice, green chilies, shallots, curry leaves, cumin, asafoetida powder and salt in a mixer jar
Grind well into smooth batter
Keep it aside for 4 hours for the batter to rise
Pour the batter into a greased tray
Steam for 10 minutes in a steamer
Meanwhile, heat oil in another pan
Splutter the mustard seeds
Roast dried chillies, cumin seeds, white sesame seeds and curry leaves
Add the steamed mung bean appam
Mix well until the all sides of the appam are coated with the tempering
Delicious mung mean appam is ready!
