Spicy and slightly sour tamarind rice is extremely tasty and filling too. Check out the recipe.
Ingredients
1 ½ cups raw rice
Lemon sized ball of tamarind
3 tbsp sesame oil
For the masala powder
2 tbsp coriander seeds
½ tsp fenugreek
1 tsp white sesame seeds
5 red chillies
For the tempering
1 tsp mustard seeds
4 urad dal
4 tsp split Bengal gram
3 red chillies
½ tsp asafoetida powder
½ tsp turmeric powder
50 gms peanuts
Curry leaves
Preparation
Dry roast the coriander seeds and fenugreek until they turn fragrant
Add the white sesame seeds
Roast well
Grind them into fine powder after the mixture has cooled down
Soak the tamarind in 1 ½ cups hot water
Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds
Roast the urad dal, Bengal gram, red chillies, asafoetida powder, turmeric powder, peanuts and curry leaves
Pour in the tamarind water
Add salt as required
Boil on low flame until oil begins to separate
Add the boiled raw rice and the masala powder
Mix well
Enjoy the tamarind rice with papad and pickle.
