Pakodas are a popular Indian fried snack which is usually made with chickpea or gram flour batter. In this special recipe, betel leaves are added to give the snack a unique flavour.

Ingredients
4 betel leaves
5 green chillies
2 cups rice flour
1 cup gram flour
1 tsp sesame seeds
¼ tsp turmeric powder
A pinch of asafetida
½ tsp salt
2 tbsp hot oil
1 cup water (or as required)
Oil to fry

Preparation
Grind the betel leaves and green chillies together
Into a big mixing bowl, add the rice flour, gram flour, sesame seeds, turmeric powder, and asafetida
Add the betel leaf mixture into it and mix well
Now add the hot oil
Mix it first using a spoon and then using your fingers
Add water gradually and mix into smooth batter
Fix the pakoda mould in an idiyappam presser
Fill the presser with the batter 
Press the batter into the hot oil
Flip the pakodas and cook until both the sides are crispy
Scoop out the fried pakodas and drain the excess oil on a paper towel
Serve hot with tomato ketchup or spicy coriander chutney.
