Not many know that delicious halwa can be made different vegetables and fruits as well. Here is how to prepare the purple yam halwa without adding any artificial colorants or additives.

Ingredients
2 cups yams (boiled and mashed)
1 cup sugar
1 tbsp ghee
½ cup coconut oil
2 tbsp all purpose flour
1 tbsp cardamom powder
50 gm cashews
A pinch of salt

Preparation
Remove the skin and wash the yam
Pressure cook the purple yam for one whistle
Mash the cooked purple yam
Transfer the yam mash into an uruli (traditional vessel)
Add sugar and stir continuously
Mix the all purpose flour in some water and add it in
You could also add the cashew paste
Now add a pinch of salt and keep stirring
Add the coconut oil slowly
Keep stirring until the oil separates
Into it add the cardamom powder
Add the ghee and mix well
Grease a dish with ghee
Transfer the halwa into it
Garnish with cashews
Cut into desired shapes after the halwa has cooled down.
