Meals for Rs 20 will soon be available in the city of Thrissur. This will be the initial step towards the noble cause, 'the hunger- free city.'

Minister V S Sunil Kumar with the help of the district administration and the Corporation is behind the scheme. The first step will be to give food for the bedridden patients in parts of the old Municipality.

Modern kitchen and space to accommodate 100 people to have food will also be arranged. Corporation has agreed to allot land for the same. Anyone can make use of this place.

The idea behind this kitchen will be to help people who work in the city for meagre income. The prime focus will be to provide simple, clean and tasty food to alleviate hunger. Kudumbashree will manage the kitchen and Civil Supplies Department will provide rice and other stationery items.

Department of Agriculture will provide vegetables procured at lower prices. An amount of Rs 1.5 crore will be spend for the scheme.

In the second step, auto rickshaws will be used as food stalls. The scheme will extend to dinner once the mid-day meal is executed properly.
