The invention of refrigerators has proved to be a boon for millions of women around the world, especially working women who could store cooked food items in the fridge for 2-3 days. However, many complain that some food items tend to turn stale even if they are refrigerated. Here are 5 points to keep in mind while refrigerating food so that it would stay fresh for a longer period of time.
Wash and dry the green chilies before storing in fridge. It could be stored up to one month if the stems are removed and kept in air tight containers inside the fridge.
Soak bunches of curry leaves or coriander leaves for about 10 minutes in water mixed with vinegar and salt. Wash for 2 -3 times and drain the excess water. On a clean piece of cloth or towel, spread the curry leaves or coriander leaves. Leave it on the cloth for at least 1 hour. Coriander leaves could be chopped or kept in bunches inside a container and store in the fridge. Remove the curry leaves from the stem, store in bottles and refrigerate it.
Do not cover meat or fish in plastic wraps while storing in freezer. Instead it should be frozen by storing in containers.
Wrap spinach in paper before keeping it in fridge. This helps to keep the leaves fresh without losing its color.
To get rid of foul odors, keep a bowl of lemon juice and another bowl of vinegar inside the fridge. Keep the power on for a while with the bowls of lemon juice and vinegar inside.
