Bhavatharini, award-winning singer and daughter of music maestro Ilayaraja, has died at the age of 47.

According to reports, she passed away at a hospital in Sri Lanka following a prolonged illness.

Bhavatharini bagged a national award for Best Female Playback Singer for the song 'Mayil Pola Ponnu Onnu', which was composed by her father for the Tamil movie Bharathi that released in 2000.

Bhavatharini was due to perform a concert in Colombo on January 27 and 28.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin condoled the demise of Bhavatharini. Stalin recalled Bhavatharini had won a National Award for the film 'Bharatho', a biopic on national poet Subramanya Bharathy. The void left behind by her will remain, he said.

Musicians Yuvan Shankar Raja and Karthik Raja are Bhavatharini's brothers.
