Unni Menon shelves son's wedding celebration to donate for flood relief

Veteran singer Unni Menon's son would have a low-profile wedding. Menon has also decided to donate the money saved by shelving the celebrations for flood relief.

His son Ankur Unni and Kavya are set to get married on September 20. Ankur is an architect based in Chennai.

“For last 9 months, the wedding preparations were going on. But now, we have even shifted the venue and it will be a very close-knit affair for the family. The money saved from the wedding will be contributed to flood relief fund”, Unni Menon was quoted as saying by a website.

The wedding was slated to happen at Thrissur Lulu convention centre but has now been shifted to Chennai Mahalingapuram Ayyappa Temple on the same date.

Ever since Kerala has been affected by incessant rains and floods, celebs across the country are making their contributions. Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput has topped the contributions from among the celebs donating Rs 1 crore for victims followed by Tamil star Vijay with Rs 70 lakhs.

Heavy rain wreaked havoc in the state forcing more than a million people to seek shelter in refugee camps and causing widespread destruction in many districts.

The state government has pegged the losses at Rs 20,000 crore.
