Review | 'Marco' star Unni Mukundan keeps it simple in 'Get-Set Baby'

Of late, the Malayalam film industry has been exploring infertility and the struggles of newlyweds. 'Get-Set Baby', starring Unni Mukundan, is another film exploring this crucial aspect of family life. However, it is not overburdened by the subject it deals with.
'Get-Set Baby,' directed by Vinay Govind, is rather breezy and uncomplicated. It tells the tale of a young, aspiring male gynaecologist who treats patients struggling to conceive. His professional and personal journey forms the crux of this feel-good movie, which packages fun and emotions quite convincingly.
Unni Mukundan, who had a super successful outing with Mollywood's most violent movie 'Marco', is back to doing what he loves the most in 'Get-Set Baby' -- being part of films that a family audience can enjoy.
It is quite interesting to witness Unni's transformation from the superstylish, macho man in a black suit all set to kill a clan in 'Marco' to the understanding, soft doctor whose forte is female emotions and pregnancies. He has played the soft guy earlier too; whether it is Jayakrishnan in 'Meppadiyan' or Shafeek in 'Shafeekkinte Santhosham'. 'Get-Set Baby' rides on his charming persona.
Nikhila Vimal, who has had very little to do in the past few films, including 'Oru Jaathi Jathakam' and 'Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil', gets some good screen space in this film, as Unni's girlfriend-turned-wife. The high point of 'Get Set Baby' is how it chooses to address some key issues between couples with some good dialogues from writers Y V Rajesh and Anoop Ravindran. However, the change in Dr Arjun's attitude towards the interval does baffle you and this is where the film could have done with some better writing.
Tamil-Malayalam music composer Sam C S, who worked his magic with some interesting beats in 'Pani' recently, keeps momentum in 'Get-Set Baby,' though there are very few tracks that are memorable. Director Vinay, known for his quirky, eccentric films, like 'Kili Poyi' and 'Kohinoor', opts for a simple, feel-good family drama with few aha moments but is still watchable for its performances and plotline.
