Lijomol Jose hails from Idukki/Peerumade, and her debut film was placed in the backdrop of Idukki. After playing the quintessential girl next door roles in Malayalam cinema, she stunned all and sundry with a fabulous performance in ‘Jai Bhim.’ She is back in Malayalam with ‘Vishudha Mejo’ which releases on Aug 5.
From Peerumade to cinema
That was all unexpected. It was my friend who saw the casting call for 'Maheshinte Prathikaram' on social media. And I sent my photographs. At that time I was doing PG from Pondicherry Central University. They asked me to come to Kochi for auditions. I was very nervous initially. I think they showed some interest when they came to know that I was from Idukki. They asked me to perform some scenes. And that was how I bagged my first film.
New film
‘Vishudha Mejo’ is an entertainer filled with humour, family sentiments, and friendship. People will probably know what to expect from the team of ‘Thannermathan Dinangal’. Mathew Thomas and Dinoy Paulose are also part of the film. Ad filmmaker Kiran Antony is the director.
Are you taking a break between films?
They called me for my first Tamil film, 'Sivappu Manjal Pachai’ after watching 'Maheshinte Prathikaram'. I did 'Jai Bhim' after two years. I can’t really say that there was a gap after 'Jai Bhim'. Post 'Jai Bhim', better stories are coming my way from Malayalam and Tamil cinema. I would rather concentrate on doing quality films than just go on a signing spree. Currently, I am doing a Tamil film called ‘Annapoorni.’ In Malayalam, I have done ‘Pulimeda’ and ‘Her.’
