Who is Honey Rose?
Hailing from Moolamattom in Thodupuzha, Honey Rose has risen from humble beginnings to establish herself as a notable actor in Mollywood. She made her debut at 15 in Vinayan's 'Boyy Friend' alongside Manikuttan, though her dream of joining the film industry began even earlier.
"Vinayan sir was shooting in Thodupuzha at one of our staff’s homes. Like any other curious teenager, I wanted to see the process. One of the camerapersons noticed me and said I had the looks to be an actor. This sparked a lot of discussion locally, and eventually, my parents and I approached Vinayan sir. He told me I was too young to play a heroine and asked me to wait," Honey shared in a recent interview.
She later made her Tamil debut with 'Mudhal Kanave' and entered Telugu cinema with 'Aalayam.' Her breakthrough role came with V K Prakash’s 'Trivandrum Lodge,' where she portrayed Dhwani Nambiar, a divorced woman writing a book in a male-dominated lodge.
The success of 'Trivandrum Lodge' initially led her to adopt the screen name Dhwani, but she soon reverted to Honey Rose with her role in 5 Sundarikal, appearing alongside Fahadh Faasil. Over the years, she has worked with Mollywood stalwarts, including Mohanlal and Mammootty.
In 2019, Honey ventured into entrepreneurship by launching a vetiver-based bath and shower product, providing livelihoods for over a hundred women in her hometown. In 2024, she announced her debut as a producer with Honey Rose Varghese (HRV) Productions. She expressed her passion for storytelling and filmmaking during the launch, which coincided with her birthday on September 5.
Her upcoming film Rachel, directed by debutante Anandhini Bala, marks her first collaboration with a female director and is set to release soon. In a prior interview with Onmanorama, Honey spoke about the challenges women directors face in the industry. As an active member of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), she has contributed significantly to its initiatives and decision-making processes.
Actor Sarayu Mohan who has worked closely with Honey Rose, both in AMMA and as an artist, said she is not surprised by Honey Rose's decision to take down social media trolls. “I have known her for years. She has always been bold and independent. She is also someone who is clear about charting her own path. Her decision to fight bigwigs is not surprising to anyone who has known her closely,” she said.
Dubbing artist Bhagyalakshmi said Honey Rose's bold stance against a man who has great influence on social media will be a reference point for anyone who wants to fight social media trolls in the future. “Some may argue she was late to file the complaint. But it is her sheer willpower that is making her fight against someone so influential in social media. This case is a slap on the faces of anyone who try to take advantage of women. She probably took time to file a complaint against people like Bobby Chemmannur but it is not an easy task. I salute her courage,” she said. Many actors, including Parvathy Thiruvothu, Divya Prabha and Srindhaa have come out in support of actor Honey Rose.
