Veteran singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya has expressed his frustration with music composer AR Rahman, criticising his unconventional work routine. Abhijeet claimed that Rahman deliberately delayed recording sessions and that he couldn’t overlook such actions, even in the name of creativity. He revealed that he had only collaborated with Rahman on a single song because the composer’s lack of punctuality made it difficult for him to continue working together. The singer made these revelations in an interview with national media.

Abhijeet shared that he had previously received offers to sing for well-known music composers like Anu Malik, Anand-Milind, and Jatin-Lalit, but his schedule was packed with dubbing sessions at the time. One day, Rahman offered him a song, and he went to meet him. However, after waiting at the hotel for a long time, he eventually left, unable to wait any longer. He suggested that they could record in the morning.

Later that night, around 2 am, Abhijeet received a call from Rahman’s studio, asking him to come in for the recording. Abhijeet, who was about to go to bed, declined the request, saying that he was going to sleep. He eventually arrived at the studio the next morning to record the song, but Rahman was not there.

Abhijeet expressed his discomfort with Rahman’s irregular work habits, noting that he is someone who values punctuality and a proper routine. “How can one accept being asked to record a song at 3. 33 am in the name of creativity?” he questioned.

At the time, Rahman’s assistant was in charge of the studio. Abhijeet explained that he caught a cold due to the air conditioning, but Rahman’s assistant insisted that he sing despite his condition. “I’ve sung hit songs for many super flop movies, and this was one of them. No one watched the movie, but Rahman received credit for composing the songs,” Abhijeet remarked.
After the recording, Abhijeet tried to meet Rahman several times, but he did not receive a proper response. “An artist cannot be deemed big or small just because he does such things. I waited for him for hours, but had to return without meeting him,” he concluded.
