From the funniest to the most shocking | Why Golden Globes host Nikki Glaser was talk of awards ceremony

Comedian Nikki Glaser made history at the Golden Globes ceremony this year by becoming the first-ever solo female host at the event. Nikki, known mostly for her comedy roasts at popular names, looked like she was having the time of her life. While Glaser might not have reached Tina Fey and Amy Poehler levels of laughs, the monologue was mostly a winner, and a dramatic improvement over last year's host, Jo Koy. Glaser assured the crowd that, win or lose, the point of making art is to start a tequila brand so popular that you never have to make art again.
The host started her monologue with some interesting remarks, including a dig at some of the most powerful people in the room. She also took a dig at the producers and even at streamers, including CBS. "I really feel like I have made it. I'm in a room full of producers at the Beverly Hilton and this time, all of my clothes are on. It was worth it,” she said to a room, which received the statement with mirth. She then went on to roast 'Joker 2', which failed to do good business at theatres, despite the first part being a critical and commercial hit. “Where’s the Joker 2 table? Oh right, they’re not here,” she said, highlighting how the film failed to impress at several fronts.
The 40-year-old comedian also took a dig at the room full of Hollywood stars, referring to US President Donald Trump's victory.'Some of you may know me as a stand up comedian, and from my appearances on roasts. But I'm not here to roast you. I want you to know that. How could I, really? You're also famous, so talented, so powerful. You can really do anything, except tell the country who to vote for, but it's okay.'
She then quickly turned to 'Wicked' star Ariana Grande with a request 'Ariana, hold my finger.'. The joke resonated well with the audience as it was based on a viral video, involving 'Wicked' stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo and journalist Tracey E Gilchrist, regarding the lyrics of the song 'Defying Gravity' from the movie.
Glaser soon targeted Timothe Chalamet who was nominated for his performance as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, 'complimenting' him for having the most gorgeous eye-lashes on 'your upper lip.' If most of the jokes landed well, it is probably because Nikki, who is a well-known stand-up comedian, rehearsed the monologue nearly a 100 times. Social media was flooded with comments praising the comedian's roasting skills and calm composure.
While most of the jokes received appreciation, some of her remarks, on Sean 'Diddy' Combs drew surprise and nervous laughter from the crowds. She started the joke about Sean Combs sexual abuse by first praising Zendaya's performance in 'Dune: Part Two' and 'Challengers'.
“Girl, that movie was more charged than Diddy's credit card," hinting that the film was provocative but also taking a dig at Combs, who is awaiting trial for charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. As the audience chuckled uneasily, Glaser stated. "I'm upset to. The afterparty won’t be as fun this year. No baby oil, just lots of olive oil. I know the Stanley Tucci freak-off doesn’t have the same ring to it."
