3. Badhaai Ho

Theme: An aged-mother in a family is pregnant and the incidents that follow

What's best: Performances and refreshing storyline with punchy lines. Entertainer.

Theme: Lakshmi, a welder decides to revolutionisze the manufacturing of pads for women and creates menstural hygiene awareness

What's best: The film with beautifully etched characters tackles the 'shame' that society has set.

5. October

Starring: Varun Dhawan, Banita Sandhu, and Gitanjali Rao.

Director: Shoojit Sircar

Theme: How co-workers Dan and Shiuli get to know each other and thereby changes their lives forever.

What's best: Rhythmic narrative, performances and contemporary approach.

6. Manmarziyaan

Starring: Abhishek Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal.

Director: Anurag Kashyap

Theme: Rumi and Vicky are in love but out of family pressure she agrees to an arranged marriage and gets married to Robbie.

What's best: Though the storyline seem cliched, it's the packaging that goes well. Original treatment and performances are the best parts.

7. Hichki

Starring: Rani Mukerji

What's best: The performance. A well-intentioned film based on a true-life story.

8. Stree

Starring: Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurrana, and Abhishek Banerjee.

Director: Amar Kaushik

Theme: Chanderi town is haunted by a unique legend of the spirit of an angry woman who stalks men during a festive period.

What's best: A comedy horror that balances shocks and laughs well. Performances.

9. Mulk

Starring: Taapsee Pannu and Rishi Kapoor

Director: Anubhav Sinha

Theme: A Muslim family strugglse to reclaim its lost honour.

What's best:Strong performances and in-depth characterisation.

10. Karwaan

Starring: Irrfan Khan, Dulquer Salmaan, Mithila Palkar.

Director: Akarsh Khurana

Theme: A road journey that changes the life of three souls.

What's best: Performances. Light-hearted comedy.
