How Navya Nair floors us again

Actress Navya Nair had won hearts and impressed the audience with her charming on-screen presence. Although she has been away from the big screen, Navya has been busy with stage shows and dance performances. Recently, she appeared on Mazhavil Manorama's chat show 'Nakshathrathilakkam' along with director Rafi. On social media, the short clippings of the video have been doing rounds and viewers are applauding her humility and innocence.

Missing the big screen

When asked if she misses acting and the industry, Navya said, “When I left for Bombay after marriage, I missed all those busy shooting schedules. Initially, it used to be very hard for me. After my husband left for work, I ended up putting on make-up and walking here and there inside the house. I even used to mimick before the mirrors. There was nothing else to do. During shooting days, I would yearn for some free time. And once when I started a normal family life, there was an emptiness.”

Navya had married a Mumbai-based businessman, Santhosh Menon in 2010 and they have a son Sai Krishna.

Disasters in kitchen

The yesteryear actress also opened about her early cooking attempts on her own. As Navya began her family life, she realised she was a very bad cook.

“When I left the industry, there was nothing much to do at home. That is how I tried cooking. I was someone who barely knew anything. The first food I tried making was upma, which was never made. Then I tried puttu, which was also turned out to be a disaster. Gradually, over the time, the interest grew and now I can say that I can cook well,” she laughingly said.

Meanwhile, recalling an old incident about his 2007 film, 'Hallo', Rafi described how he had to bargain the remuneration for the leading actress Parvati Melton. Teasing him, Navya asked why he went ahead to cast artistes from other industries when he could find good actresses here itself. Rafi replied he had roped actresses from other industries only in one or two films, the rest came from remote villages like Haripad (in a reference to Navya's house) and the duo laughed out loud.

Butt of jokes

Relating to the filmmaker's comment, Navya recalled how superstar Dilieep too made fun of her village origins. “Once Dileep came to my house and he asked if my house had electricity. These people pull my legs whenever they can,” she said.

Interestingly, she had just completed her class 10 when she made her debut opposite Dileep in 'Ishtam' in 2001.

Dance career

Navya is quite active on her social media and her pages have her dance and workout photos. “I loved doing dance since a young age. But cinema is comparatively much more easy I feel. One can easily achieve fame, appreciation unlike in dance which is more tedious. The passion for dance was always within me but only after marriage that it turned into an addiction. Being settled in Mumbai is also an advantage for it as it's a place where we get to see many concerts as well as chances to perform on different stages,” she said.
