Malayalam actress Shanti Krishna, who was staying away from the limelight after her second marriage, is on a roll. Her latest movie 'Mangalyam Thanthunanena', starring Kunchacko Boban and Nimisha Sajayan, is running to packed theatres in the state. She is also gearing up for yet another film with Nivin Pauly titled 'Mikhayel'. The duo had earlier shared screen space in 'Njandukalude Naatil Oruidevela'.
Recently, talking to a Malayalam website, Shanthi revealed how she bounced back from her failed marriages. “I am happy that I am back. Everything just happens for me at the right time. I was only 19 when I first got married. At present you can’t even think of a marriage at 19. But it just happened," she said.
Shanthi was married to Malayalam actor Sreenath in 1984 and later divorced in 1995.
After 12 years of married life, Sreenath revealed that Sahanti was not a wife of his dreams. Talking about it, she said, “Surely, it did hurt me then. Teenage is a time when we have so many dreams and we tend to live in such a dreamy world. But reality might be a bit harsh. I made my own decisions in life so I don't have any complaint to anyone. Married life was one big stage in my life. It took me to the extend of depression and even at that time Cinema was my saviour.”
Crediting her mother as her role model, Shanti said, “Once you are a mother, you seem to forget that you have a life and needs. For me, my husband and children were my world. But now, I feel that it isn't the right way. I too need a life of my own. Being financially independent is very important for a woman. I learnt it after years.”
Further she added, “Post marriage, it was my father who wanted my mother to learn music. I am lucky that I was born to them. I still don’t understand why we stop once we are married”.
Shanthi had got married to Kollam-based Sadasivan, an entrepreneur, in 1998. The couple divorced in 2016 and have two children.
