From cane-wielding taskmasters to amazing mentors to nutball lecturers, our favourite onscreen teachers come in all shapes and sizes. And whether it is a heartwarming drama about an inspiring teacher who guides the at-risk school kids or a screwball comedy where burned-out professors crack untimely jokes, we would give them all those shiny red apples of approval. They are so cool that we want them to hop right off the screen to teach us a thing or two.

On this Teachers' Day, Onmanorama celebrates a few kick-ass teachers from the days of yore. (Let us conveniently forget our new-gen teachers such as Malar miss, Java sir and PT mash for the time being.)

Mohanlal

'Doore Doore Oru Koodu Koottam' is perhaps famous for its 'salt mango tree' dialogue, but Divakaran Maash had caught our attention and we all loved the teacher in Mohanlal.

Mammootty

Well, who would forget the handsome college professor in the film 'Mazhayethum Munpe'. Professor Nandakumar Varma made us all go gaga over his looks.

 Jagathy Sreekumar

While 'Pranchiyettan & the Saint' got much appreciation as a film, Pandit Deenadayal grabbed many eyeballs. Jagathy was indeed amusing in his teacher avatar.

Innocent

The movie 'Amina Tailors' depicts the value of literacy and shows the ill-effects of illiteracy. Who didn’t love the headmaster of a government LP school with his dialogue “Padikan vannathanel padika, ith entha chanthapuraya”.

Mukesh

Mukesh as Hindi teacher saying 'aage mud...peeche mud' and 'dusht' teaching in 'Gajakesariyogam' can still leave us in splits.
