Mammootty recently stunned us with the teaser from his upcoming Tamil movie 'Peranbu'. "This is the Mammootty we have been waiting to see", said netizens on social media praising the actor for his amazing act. Some even clamoured that Mammootty might get his fourth National Award for this movie. Interestingly, 'Peranbu' marks the return of Mammootty into Tamil movie after the 2010 bilingual film, 'Vandae Maatharam'.

Mounam Sammadham

After Mammootty reigned in Mollywood with the success of 'Oru CBI Diary Kurippu', he became a sensation among Tamil audience as well. And this paved way for him to venture into Kollywood with the 1990 film 'Mounam Sammadham'. Amala played the female lead in the thriller. The movie was much noted for its similar plot to many of the Malayalam investigative thrillers.

The 1991 movie came at a time when masala movies made a huge commercial success. 'Azhagan' with Mammootty in the lead brought up the mass and class feel. The colourful sequences and songs were a highlight. Not to be missed was Mammootty's charming persona.

Makkal Aatchi

Directed by RK Selvamani, the 1995 movie was made after the success of 'Thalapathy'. This movie which saw Mammootty in a politician's role in fact made him a fan-favourite of Tamil Nadu. The film was also dubbed in Malayalam as 'Ente Naadu'. Interestingly, the Rajinikanth-starrer 'Muthu' released at the same time and both clashed at the box office with 'Makkal Aatchi' and surprisingly the Mammootty movie took the lead.

Directed by Rajiv Menon, the movie created a huge buzz with its ensemble cast including Mammootty, Ajith, Tabu, Aishwarya Rai and Abbas. The film was an adaptation of Jane Austen's novel 'Sense and Sensibility' and the movie went on to feature in international film festivals also. The 2000 movie saw Mammootty in a rare role as a handicapped army officer. An emotional scene between Mammootty and Aishwarya talking about their life was perhaps one of the heart-touching scenes in the movie and got copious applauds. There was also another notable scene where Mammootty's character laments as how war heroes are forgotten after they lay down their lives for Nation.

The 2001 movie was N Linguswamy's directorial debut. He was inspired by a series of incidents that his mother narrated to him and thus made them into a movie.Mammootty delivered a sterling performance in the movie as the eldest among four brothers.
