Kochi: The Kochi Metro now has a German touch with a travelling artist wielding his brush on a property owned by the public transport company. Peter Klar, who is part of a Paris-based art collective, painted graffiti on the Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL)'s open-air theatre at Jos Junction in six days.

The work, featuring an abstract image of the metro rail in eye-catching shades of blue, green and yellow, was unveiled on Thursday. Klar did the artwork as part of the Color Kochi campaign being carried out by Kochi Design Week in association with Kochi Corporation.

It is the first work by Klar in Kerala. Klar, a kitchen manager in Germany, visits other countries during winter and practises his art wherever he goes. Overwhelmed by the reception his work has received in Kochi, he has agreed to do graffiti on one of the terminals of the Water Metro also. He is travelling next to Nepal.

KMRL managing director Loknath Behera, Kochi Mayor M Anilkumar and Kochi Design Week co-founder Keerthy Thilakan honoured Klar for making the graffiti in a short period. KMRL general manager Joe Paul presented Klar with a memento.
Mayor Anilkumar said the Color Kochi campaign aims to make the city landscape more attractive. "We aim to make Kochi a design city," he said.
