The number of attempts allowed for candidates taking the JEE Advanced examination for Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) admissions has been increased from two to three.
According to the updated eligibility criteria for the JEE Advanced in 2025, candidates born on or after October 1, 2000, are eligible to sit for the examination. Candidates from SC, ST, and differently-abled categories will receive a five-year age relaxation. Students who completed their Class 12 examination in 2023 or 2024, or are appearing for it in 2025, are also eligible.
This year, the JEE Advanced examination is being organised by IIT Kanpur. Candidates whose Class 12 results were published on or after September 21, 2022, will also be permitted to take the exam.
Applicants should not have previously secured admission to any of the IITs, and those who accepted a seat during counselling will also be ineligible. Only the top 250,000 candidates (including all categories) from JEE Main 2025 will be qualified to attempt the Advanced examination. However, the number of candidates eligible may increase slightly due to multiple students receiving the same rank. The examination dates are yet to be announced.
OCI/PIO candidates who received their cards on or after March 4, 2021, will be considered foreign applicants. Foreign candidates, regardless of whether they completed Class 12 in India or abroad, can register directly for the JEE Advanced without taking the JEE Main.
