Thenhipalam, Malappuram: Calicut University has announced a significant hike in the fees for examinations and certificates related to its four-year degree programmes. The increase ranges from 50% to 200% compared to the fees for three-year undergraduate courses. This move also contradicts an earlier decision by the institution to raise its fees annually by only 5%.
The hike follows a recommendation by a syndicate sub-committee, based on the guidelines set by the State Higher Education Department and the State Higher Education Council.
As per the revised structure, the fee for the revaluation of answer sheets in regular and supplementary theory exams has risen to Rs 840, up from Rs 735. To obtain a copy of the answer sheet, students will now have to pay Rs 250, as against the previous fee of Rs 190. The scrutiny fee for answer sheets has been increased from Rs 70 to Rs 110.
For theory examinations in semesters 1, 3, 5, and 7, students will now pay Rs 150 per paper, while for semesters 2, 4, 6, and 8, the fee is Rs 180 per paper. Previously, the fee for all semesters was just Rs 50 per paper. The practical examination fee has also been increased to Rs 200, and the fee for improvement exams has been hiked from Rs 95 to Rs 250.
