New Delhi: The counselling for admission to medical courses in the country, initially scheduled to start on July 6, has been postponed due to the upcoming Supreme Court hearing on July 8 regarding a batch of petitions filed against NEET-UG 2024. The new counselling dates will be announced based on the directives of the apex court.
A bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud will consider over 20 petitions, including those requesting a retest following the leak of the NEET-UG 2024 question paper.
If the court is satisfied with the procedures, including the awarding of grace marks, and permits the counselling to proceed, the schedule will be released the day after the court's decision. However, if the court has reservations, the National Testing Agency (NTA) is prepared to conduct a retest.
NTA officials stated that preparations for a potential retest are made every year in anticipation of the possibility of NEET-UG cancellation by the Supreme Court. These advance preparations are intended to prevent delays in conducting a retest.
