Kottayam: Former Chief Secretary of Kerala Lissy Jacob was the chief guest at the convocation of the twenty-second batch at Manorama School of Communication (MASCOM) held here on Friday. In her address, Lissy Jacob highlighted the role of the media in helping the common people to intervene in matters of public interest.

“By focusing on regional issues, newspapers act as the link between society and the administrative system. Efforts have to be taken to develop journalism into a mode of social service,” she said.

The former bureaucrat also expressed happiness over the fact that the media sector is attracting youths in large numbers.

Malayala Manorama Executive Editor and MASCOM Managing Trustee Jayant Mammen Mathew presented the memento. Those who spoke at the ceremony included MASCOM Director A Ravi Shankar, Assistant Director S Radhakrishnan and students’ representative Eby George Zachariah.
