Thiruvananthapuram: Catherine Sebastian and RS Abhinav, both Civil Engineering students at the College of Engineering, Trivandrum, bagged the first and second ranks in the B Tech examination of the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University.
Catherine topped the rank list with 9.98 grade and Abhinav secured 9.97 grade.
Meanwhile, S Sreelekshmi, a Civil Engineering student of TKM Engineering College, Kollam, and Sneha, a Computer Science student at NSS College, Palakkad, shared the third rank by scoring 9.95 grade.
The overall pass percentage of the fourth B Tech batch of the university is 50.47% as per the results announced on Monday. Last year, the pass percentage was 51.86%.
Over 25,000 students sat for exam
Around 28,328 students had secured admission in this batch, in 2018, in 24 engineering branches. Among this, 25,851 students from 144 colleges were eligible to write the exam. Meanwhile, 13,025 students among the 25,808 students who wrote the exam have passed.
Computer Science stream excels
The government, aided and government-controlled self-financing and private colleges have registered a pass percentage of 65.18%, 69.34%, 53.87% and 44.40% respectively. With 50.39%, the Computer Science stream has the highest pass percentage.
Prominent streams like Electronics, Electrical, Civil and Mechanical have pass percentage of 49.09%, 38.83%, 50.01% and 36.55% respectively.
Girls impress
Girls have rendered an impressive performance with 6,398 students (65.13%) passing out of the 9,828 candidates who wrote the exam. Meanwhile, 15,980 boys had written the exam and their success rate is 41.55%.
Top 3 colleges
College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram, Government Model Engineering College, Thrikkakara, and Government Engineering College, Barton Hill, Thiruvananthapuram, have the highest pass percentages with 82.43, 80 and 79.64 respectively.
Meanwhile, colleges like TKM, Kollam (798), Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology (691) and College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram, (683) where the most number of students sat for the exams registered success rates of 64.66%, 70.48% and 82.43% respectively.
Digital provisional certificates
The provisional certificates and the grade cards of those who have passed BTech from the Technological university will be available in the digital format. The candidates can download the certificates that carry the e-signature of the Controller of Examinations, from the students’ portal.
B Tech Honours
The BTech degree is granted to those who score 182 credits from 8 semesters. Meanwhile, BTech Honours is granted to those who score more than 8 grades until the fourth semester and secure 12 credits by studying 4 additional subjects including two online courses.
Among the 13,025 who passed the exam this year, 1,321 students are eligible for BTech Honours.
The colleges from where the most number of students passed with BTech Honours degree are: Mar Athanasius College of Engineering, Kothamangalam (89), NSS College of Engineering, Palakkad (85), and Saintgits College of Engineering Kottayam (77).
CET, Thiruvananthapuram (7.16), Government Engineering College, Barton Hill Thiruvananthapuram (6.78) and Model Engineering College Thrikkakara (6.69) grabbed the highest academic performance index.
Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University was formerly known as the Kerala Technological University, but the name still sticks.
