Kerala has been featured in the ‘No List 2025’ published by Fodors, a California-based, globally acclaimed online tourism information provider. The ‘No List’ is its annually released global list of tourism spots that are deteriorating, mainly due to unsustainable tourism and natural disasters, and should be avoided by travellers. Fifteen noted tourism spots across the globe, including Kerala, have been featured in the list for the coming year. The ‘No List’ is published as a warning against the unsustainable development and frequent natural disasters affecting the tourism prospects of a place.

The report that mentioned the deadly landslides at Chooralmala and Mundakkai pointed out that Kerala's rivers and other water resources were polluted. Quoting experts, the Fodors report says that unregulated tourism activities have affected the water’s natural flow, increasing the risk of landslides. It also notes how the state has ignored warnings about the potential risks of landslides for decades. Besides, the report highlighted how sixty per cent of the 3782 landslides in India between 2015 and 2022 have occurred in Kerala.

Bali in Indonesia, a few places in Europe like the Canary Islands, Barcelona and Mallorca, where the natives have been protesting against tourism, and Koh Samui in Thailand and Mount Everest, which are repeatedly featured in the list, are included this year too. Agrigento in Italy, the British Virgin Islands, Kyoto in Japan and Oaxaca in Mexico are also in Fodors ‘No List 2025’.
