As a thick smog envelops Delhi, several train and flight services were disrupted on Monday morning. According to reports, over 160 flights from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport—118 departures and 43 arrivals—were delayed until 8:30 a.m. There is an average 22-minute delay in flight departures at present. Seven flights were also cancelled. Around 30 trains arriving at New Delhi and Anand Vihar Railway stations are also delayed by up to nine hours today.

The Delhi airport has advised passengers to contact their airlines as the low visibility procedures are in place due to the poor air quality. The latest reports say that Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) shows 484, placing it in the 'severe plus' category. (AQI from 401 to 450 is 'severe' and above that is classified as 'severe plus,' which can cause major health risks for even healthy individuals).

Trains cancelled, disrupted: What should passengers do?

1) Regularly monitor your train's status through the National Train Enquiry System and sign up for alerts.
2) Pack essentials like snacks, water, and medications as you prepare for a delayed journey. Also, make sure you carry warm clothes and masks.
3) Don't stand too close to the tracks in the railway station, especially if there is dense smog or fog.
4) Check for alternative travel arrangements, like taxis or buses, if possible.
5) You can also use travel insurance if it covers compensation for train delays or missed connections due to environmental factors.
