With the end of the tourist season in Ooty, the tourist spots have become deserted. The influx of tourists to Ooty has also ceased. There are changes in the weather patterns of Ooty as well. With increasing instances of severe cold, rain, and wind, life in the town has become miserable. Additionally, waterlogging and dirt have marred the Ooty experience quite a bit. All the gardens are deserted. All these contributed to this year's season turning into a major failure for vendors as well. The court order requiring e-passes for tourists coming to Ooty and Kodaikanal was a major setback. E-passes have been made mandatory until June 30. Although everyone who applies receives one, the tightening of controls at the check posts has discouraged tourists from securing the e-pass. The failure of the tourism season led to significant losses in the business sector. Those who leased tourism centres in Ooty by spending large sums suffered massive losses. Local residents said that all sectors dependent on tourism had suffered losses.
Resort for Rs 1,500
Resorts that used to charge Rs 5,000 a day for a room were forced to lower the tariffs to as low as Rs 1,500 as there are fewer tourists.
