Thiruvananthapuram: Four more Gray Langurs have been added to the rich collection of wildlife at the Thiruvananthapuram zoo, taking the number of the species there to six.
The northern plains Gray Langurs, also known as Hanuman Monkeys, were brought from the Rohtak Zoo and put on quarantine by Saturday evening. The male monkeys are one-and-a-half years and two-and-a-half years of age, while the two females are three years old.
They will be released in the open enclosure for the visitors to watch them after completing a month-long quarantine. The monkeys were brought here in exchange for two Hyaenas.
A female Gray Langur, brought in from Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park in Tirupati in the first week of June, had escaped while being shifted to the new enclosure. It gave the zoo authorities sleepless nights and was finally captured from the premises of a nearby building after 24 days.
The authorities are mulling to shift all the Hanuman Moneys to the new enclosure, sources said.
