Riyadh: Construction of the Jeddah Tower (Kingdom Tower), a record-breaking skyscraper, has resumed after a brief lull, informed the Jeddah Economic Company.
On completion, the 1000-meter-high skyscraper will surpass the 828-meter-long Burj Khalifa in Dubai to become the world’s tallest building.
The project is being developed under the supervision of the Jeddah Economic City. The first phase of the project, including the main tower of the building, spans an area of 1.5 square kilometres.
Envisaged as the hub of Urban Development in Saudi Arabia, the Jeddah Tower will comprise residential units having up to six bedrooms. The inmates of these apartments will be ensured a higher standard of living and access to a host of luxurious amenities. Other key components of the project include shopping malls, luxury boutiques, gourmet restaurants, tennis courts, and more.
As the world’s tallest tower, it will also feature the highest observation platform and also comprise luxury hotels, office spaces, and condominiums. Announced in 2011, work on the project began in 2013 and was originally slated to complete in 2019. The works, however, ran into several delays after completing up to the 50th floor. Though the project has now been revived, the exact date of completion is yet to be revealed.
