Palakkad: The renovated bus stand of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) at Palakkad is earning huge collections for the public carrier. In fact, after the new building was opened on November 10, the bus stand is witnessing an increased footfall of passengers.
“Currently, around 30,000 travellers use the place every day. Some people reach here simply to see the building,” said District Transport Officer (DTO) T A Ubaid. Before the new building was thrown open to the public, less than 20,000 travellers passed through the bus stand a day, added the DTO.
Meanwhile, the average daily collection from the bus stand has also increased to Rs 14 lakh now. On a particular day, it touched the record figure of Rs 17 lakh.
Incidentally, the Palakkad KSRTC bus stand was in a pathetic condition before the renovation. But now, it even flaunts an air-conditioned waiting room for women. Even though this AC room is functioning partially at present, it will be fully opened soon, said authorities.
The office will also be shifted to the new building soon.
Next phases
During the next phase, modernization of the inter-state bus terminal will take place and Palakkad will become one among the best bus stands in the state. More bus services could then be operated from here.
As part of the third phase expansion, the garage attached to the bus station will be renovated.
