Munnar: The garden on the premises of the Kannan Devan Company's regional office in Munnar town has found a place in the British Broadcasting Corporation's (BBC) documentary titled 'Around the world in 80 gardens.' The extended winter in Munnar this year has made the flowers in the garden more colourful, which attracted the BBC's attention.
Even when other districts of Kerala are sweating it out under the scorching sun, Munnar in Idukki district remains a cool haven.
The Kannan Devan Company's regional office and the garden stand on the spot where the old railway station existed during the British rule. At that time, the regional office building served as the railway station on the monorail track that connected Munnar and Kundala Valley.
The tourism department is all set to restart the Munnar - Mattupetty monorail service which was stalled 95 years ago. The authorities plan to run the service in the model of the renowned Himalayan train service in Darjeeling.
The stunning flowers are also drawing a large number of tourists to the garden.
