A few hours ago, India's Union Territory Andaman and Nicobar Islands' capital city, Port Blair, was re-named as Sri Vijaya Puram. According to the government, the new place name 'symbolises the victory achieved in our freedom struggle.' the place, which served as the naval base of the Chola Empire at one time, is also the spot that apparently hosted the first unfurling Indian National flag. It also housed the infamous cellular jail, where Indian freedom fighters were imprisoned and tortured. The 230-year-old port city also has many other spots that excite travellers and history enthusiasts.
Radhanagar Beach: One of the most beautiful beaches in the country, it is known for its clear turquoise waters, unspoiled beauty, and ideal swimming conditions, even for non-strong swimmers. Its sunset views, minimal commercialisation, wildlife, cleanliness, and ecological importance enhance its natural charm.
Ross Island: Filled with ruins of British times, including a church, cemetery, architectural ruins of administrative buildings, scenic walking trails, coral reefs, and rich wildlife, it's the best place for photography. One can also check out deer, peacocks, rabbits, and more that roam freely in these areas.
Chidiya Tapu: Chidiya Tapu, aka Bird Island, is a great bird-watching spot and a paradise for ornithologists and photographers. It's also surrounded by mangroves, tropical forests, and brilliant sunset viewing spots.
