The 9-day monsoon 'Mud Fest,' organised by the tourism department in Wayanad, comes to a close this weekend with rain lovers getting to experience all things fun. The second edition of the event has a wide variety of outdoor games like monsoon mini-marathon, mud football, monsoon tug-of-war, monsoon trekking, mud volleyball, monsoon cricket, kayaking mud kabadi and monsoon panchagusthi (arm wrestling). Wayanad Tourism Organization secretary CP Shylesh told Onmanorama, “The rain of Wayanad is unique as its characteristics are different in different landscapes. The rain you experience in the grasslands is different from the one on a mountain peak. Thanks to monsoon tourism initiatives of the past branding the rain, we are getting better footfalls this year. The DTPC initiative would help Wayanad to tap the potential of monsoon in a better way.”

Final day events on Sunday
On the final day of July 14, Mud tug-of-war, mud kabbari and panchagusti will be held at Kakkavayal. The winners will be awarded cash prizes and an opportunity to take part in the district-level competitions. “Wayanad is the only place in the globe where a rain lover is blessed with the feel of varied facets of rain”, said K R Vancheeswaran, a rain lover and nature enthusiast. “Here we always enjoyed the rain which splashed on us with all its glamour and grace”, he added. According to Vancheeswaran, Wayanad has thread rain (noolmazha), rain with sunshine, musical rain lash on the forest, stony rain that falls on the body like stones and many more.
