The National Weather Service said the tornado was a high-end EF3 twister with wind speeds up to 165 mph (265 kph) and a path as long as 25 miles (40 kilometers).
The tornado stayed on the ground for about an hour and cut a path of destruction some 170 miles (274 km) long.
IMD has predicted rains and winds in the state for the next four days.

Debris from destroyed buildings and shredded trees covered the ground in Mayfield, a city of about 10,000 in western Kentucky.
Kentucky governor Andy Beshear has declared a state of emergency and requested the US president for a federal emergency declaration.
