Two big wins drive Kerala into semifinals in Women’s Basketball

Kerala stormed into the semifinals of women's basketball at the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand on Thursday.
Kerala crushed hosts Uttarakhand 90-40 to post their second win in Group A at the Bhagirathi Hall at Rajat Jayanti Khel Parisar in Dehradun. Kerala had drubbed Uttar Pradesh 76-37 in their first game on Wednesday.
Kerala next play Punjab to decide the group winner. Tamil Nadu and Karnataka have progressed to the semifinals from Group B.
Kerala had led the hosts 58-19 at half-time, with a huge second quarter (32-5). Kerala players preserved their energies in the final two quarters, winning 12-7, 20-14. Returning star Jeena P S top scored with 14 points for Kerala against Uttarakhand. Susan Florentina made 11, while captain Sreekala R and Jayalakshmi contributed 10 points each.
On Wednesday, Kerala faced a formidable opposition in Uttar Pradesh, comprising two internationals, including the 6 feet 9 inch Poonam Chaturvedi and Bharkha Sonkar.
However, Kerala did not give them an inch and secured a comfortable win. Chaturvedi top scored with 18 points, while captain Sreekala hit 12 for Kerala.
