Malappuram Football Club defeated Forca Kochi FC 2-0 in the inaugural match of Super League Kerala at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium in Kochi on Saturday.

Faslu Rahman and Pedro Manzi scored the goals for the Malappuram side led by former India international Anas Edathodika.

Uruguayan striker Manzi, who has plenty of experience playing in various Indian leagues, nodded in the opener in the 3rd minute. A delightful cross from Rahman provided the assist for the goal.

Manzi returned the favour five minutes before half-time when he headed down a freekick from the deep for Rahman to slide it in.

Earlier, the opening ceremony featuring Bollywood star Jacqueline Fernandez and music artists Stephan Devassy, Shivamani, Dabzee, DJ Savyo, and DJ Sekhar enthralled the fans.
Actors Prithviraj and Asif Ali, who are also owners of SLK clubs, were in attendance.
