Mahindra becomes title sponsor of Super League Kerala

Kochi: Mahindra Group will be the title sponsor of Super League Kerala (SLK) football beginning on September 7.  The event will be known as Mahindra Super League Kerala.

SLK Director Firoz Meeran sought the cooperation of all sections of the society for successfully holding the first professional football league in Kerala. Firoz exuded confidence that SLK will provide young talents with unprecedented opportunities. “The league will be a game-changer for Kerala and the country."

SLK Chief Executive Officer Mathew Joseph and Kerala Football Association president Navas Meeran also addressed the press conference.

The inaugural match between Forca Kochi FC and Malappuram FC will be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi. The match will kick off at 7.30 pm. 

The four other teams in the fray are Thiruvananthapuram Kombans FC, Kannur Warriors FC, Calicut FC, and Thrissur Magic FC.

A cultural extravaganza featuring leading performers from the country will precede the inaugural match. 

The first edition of SLK will see 33 matches involving six franchises across four venues in the state. The matches will be played at Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, and Manjeri.

The champions will get a cash prize of Rs 1 crore, while the runners-up will be richer by Rs 50 lakh. 

The competition will be telecast live on Star Sports 1 and Hotstar.

A charity match between Mohammedan Sporting Club and SLK Top 11 will be held at Manjeri on Friday to raise funds for the victims of the Wayanad landslides. The proceeds from the match will be handed over to the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund.
