Chennai: The Christian Medical College (CMC) in Vellore has stopped admissions to MBBS and super-specialty courses, pointing out that entry done on the basis of the national entrance test NEET violates the basic principles and objectives that the institution upholds.
The crucial decision was taken by the CMC council recently. It has approached the Supreme Court against the NEET stipulation that admissions to the management quota should also be done through general counseling. Admission procedures will be considered after the court issues its verdict.
The college has 100 seats for MBBS, 192 for postgraduate courses, and 192 for super-specialty. Of this, only one seat each will be filled in the central quota this year for MBBS and super-specialty levels. Admission procedures were completed for the postgraduate level.
The college charges Rs 3,000 for MBBS and 400 for postgraduate course as tuition fee.
