Mananthavady: The Thondernad police took a migrant labourer into custody for allegedly murdering a fellow worker and disposing of his dismembered body at multiple locations on Friday.
The police apprehended the accused, Muhammed Arif (38), while he was transporting two suitcases containing body parts. The victim, identified as Mugeeb (25), was a native of Uttar Pradesh. Police revealed that Arif killed Mugeeb at his residence in Vellamunda, reportedly over the victim’s alleged relationship with his wife.
After committing the murder, Arif stuffed Mugeeb’s body parts into two bags and called an autorickshaw around 8 pm. He allegedly discarded one bag at a banana plantation and threw the other down from a bridge.
The autorickshaw driver, noticing Arif repeatedly discarding luggage in public places, grew suspicious and confronted him. He then alerted the police and sought assistance from locals. Further investigation is underway.
