Malappuram: A 45-year-old woman and her three-month-old son were found dead at their residence in Olimathal, Mongam, here on Thursday. The deceased, Mini, was found hanging, while her infant was found dead in a bucket in the bathroom.
Police suspect that the mother drowned the baby before taking her own life. A suicide note recovered from the house stated that no one was responsible for their deaths. In the note, Mini cited her baby’s vision impairment as the reason for the decision.
Mini and her infant son were set to return to her husband’s home on Sunday. She had come to her parental home for the delivery, and this was her first child. According to sources, Mini was suffering from postpartum depression. She had reportedly informed her family members about experiencing tension, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts.
''When we arrived at her home on Thursday morning, we found her hanging, and the child was missing. We searched for a long time before finally finding the baby dead in a bucket of water in the bathroom,'' said Alavikutty, Mini’s neighbour. Manjeri police have launched an investigation into the unnatural deaths. The bodies are currently kept at the Manjeri Government Medical College.
