The survivor in the Pathanamthitta serial sexual abuse case testified in-camera at the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court in Adoor on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the number of arrests in the case has reached 44, with two more individuals taken into custody on Tuesday. Shinu George (23) was arrested at the Pathanamthitta police station, while Prajith Kumar (24) was apprehended in Elavumthitta.
The remaining accused include nine individuals from cases registered at the Elavumthitta police station, four from the Pathanamthitta, and one from the Malayalappuzha. One of the accused in the Elavumthitta case is already in jail for a 2024 POCSO case filed by Pathanamthitta police.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) handling the case is also preparing to issue a red-corner notice for one accused who fled the country before the case was registered. The investigation began with the first case registered on January 10 at Elavumthitta, and to date, 29 cases have been filed across four police stations.
The majority of the offenders are young men or minors, including the survivor's classmates, local residents, and seniors from her educational institution. Among them is a 44-year-old man, with many others working as daily wage labourers.
The case was uncovered when the survivor revealed the abuse, which had been ongoing for five years, to a community counsellor. The counsellor alerted the Child Welfare Committee in Pathanamthitta, prompting the investigation.
