Kattappana: Marykutty, wife of Kattappana native Mulangasseil Sabu (56), expressed complete faith in the Kerala police investigation into her husband’s alleged suicide and urged authorities to charge the suspects with abetment to suicide.

Sabu, a clothing store owner, was found dead on the premises of the Kattappana Rural Development Co-operative Society on Friday morning. In his suicide note, Sabu alleged that the bank officials ill-treated him and obstructed his attempts to withdraw money from his deposits, leading to his drastic decision.

At a press conference on Sunday, Marykutty reiterated the challenges her family faced. She stated that the bank consistently delayed their withdrawal requests, leaving them waiting on all but one occasion. She accused a bank official, Binoy, of verbally abusing Sabu and claimed the refusal to release funds was deliberate.

Marykutty also revealed that the family would hand over Sabu’s phone to the investigation team, as it contained recordings of the alleged verbal abuse by bank officials. “The bank tormented us for over a year and a half. The accused must be prosecuted,” she said.

According to Marykutty, Sabu had been attempting to withdraw money from his account for a year to cover her medical expenses. She had recently undergone surgery to remove her uterus, and Sabu planned to use his savings to pay for the treatment. Despite having Rs 14 lakh in his account, the bank refused to release the funds, citing insufficient reserves due to prior loan distributions. Feeling trapped and heartbroken, Sabu confided in her before his death.

Sabu’s funeral was held on Saturday following an autopsy at Idukki Government Medical College Hospital.
