Kottayam: The family of Lakshmi Radhakrishnan (20), a nursing student who was found dead in her hostel room in Kozhikode yesterday, have raised suspicion about her death and will seek a police probe into her alleged suicide.

According to sources, Lakshmi didn't go to class yesterday. It is learnt that she told her friends she was taking a sick leave. A few hours later, she was found dead.

A person close to the family told Onmanorama they will file a complaint on Thursday. “It is mysterious how a student as smart as Lakshmi would take such an extreme step. We will file an online complaint with the Kozhikode rural police tomorrow,” said the sources.

The Kidangoor native was pursuing her second year in nursing at the Kozhikode Government Medical College. As per reports, Lakshmi was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her room when cleaning workers broke open her locked door on Tuesday morning. Lakshmi was staying at a private hostel behind MCH. There are also reports that a suicide note was recovered from her room, which stated no one was responsible for her death.

According to sources, Lakshmi last visited her house in Kidangoor on December 14. She had called home even a day before her death. Police are examining her phone to ascertain the circumstances that led to her suicide. Kozhikode MCH police have registered a case for unnatural death.
